Sidney Moncrief Game Changer Foundation
Paying it forward for a city legend.
Challenge
Community leaders and sports agents asked us to host a charity event to celebrate Sidney Moncrief’s Hall of Fame induction. As a five-time NBA All-Star and an involved community leader, Sidney is a Milwaukee hometown hero. We felt he deserved more than bacon-wrapped water chestnuts.
Solution
We were asked to host a charity event to celebrate Sidney Moncrief’s Hall of Fame induction. We created a celebration of Sir Sid that acknowledged his legendary past and shined a light on his current community service. And then we created a new ongoing revenue stream for his foundation.
Sir Sid, revisited.
Our design team reintroduced Sidney Moncrief to current basketball fans, reminding everyone of his legendary accomplishments as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. We created a logo and signature “green rainbow” color treatment and brought it to life on a dedicated microsite.
A modern take on a throwback.
To really bring the classic and contemporary together, we took the timeless silhouette of Nike’s Air Force 1, a shoe Sidney helped introduce in 1982, and collaborated with legendary sneaker customizer Noel Alvarado. Noel executed the design by hand, creating a one-of-a-kind fundraising item for the silent auction. With Sidney’s autograph, this item went in the high four-figures.
Making a big night bigger.
Street teams took to Milwaukee’s historic Third Ward, painting the town with Sid’s “Green Rainbow” as a salute to his induction into the Hall of Fame. We spread the graphic across social streams drawing attention to his induction with the hashtag #SaluteToSid.
A lasting commitment to reflect an enduring legacy.
With the renewed interest in Milwaukee’s legendary five-time NBA All-Star, we took our poster and T-shirt designs to the Bucks’ pro shop at the Fiserv Forum. Because all merchandise proceeds go directly to his foundation, we worked our local supplier network to produce the merchandise cost effectively and maximize revenue. Honoring a legend and helping an underserved part of our local community; that makes work truly its own reward.
